Club chairman Nick Hull, who led the project, said during the opening ceremony he was inspired to bring the sport to Stewkley after first playing the game with his family a few years ago.

During the day, visitors were able to try the sport of padel under the guidance of club coach Matt Evans, while there were also fun tennis activities on the adjoining tennis court for all ages.

Hot dogs were served, alongside cookies made by bakery business Little Barn Bakes, and refreshments including beer brewed locally in Stewkley by the Bremo Brewing Company.

Reflecting on the day, club chairman Nick Hull said: “It was great to see so many people today wanting to support the opening of the new court.

“I’m hoping it gets more people playing racquet sports and enjoying padel.”

Callum added: “Padel is one of the fastest-growing sports around at the moment, and it's easy to see why.

"It's fun, social and a great way to get people of all ages active.

"I'm passionate about making sure our villages have plenty of opportunities for people to get involved in local activities, so it's fantastic to see Stewkley Tennis Club leading the way with a facility that's already proving so popular.

“This new court is a real asset for the village, and I’d like to thank Nick Hull and the tennis club for inviting me to the opening.

"All my hard work on the court was swiftly undone by eating delicious cookies from Little Barn Bakes and the beer brewed right here in Stewkley by Bremo Brewing Company -and I wouldn’t have had it any other way!"

More details about how to join Stewkley Tennis and Padel Club are available on its website, while the padel court can be booked by visitors through the Playtomic app.
