Vulnerable families can enjoy precious time together with help of Milton Keynes partnership
A special partnership is helping families facing financial difficulties and other challenges in Milton Keynes enjoy quality time away.
Milton Keynes City Council is working with Bucks-based charity, The Getaway Foundation to give some of the city’s most vulnerable families a much-needed break.
Since 2021, the charity has provided 104 free UK holidays to local families, paid for by generous donations from its supporters.
The holidays give families facing financial difficulties or other challenging circumstances the chance to spend quality time together and create positive memories.
Councillor Peter Cannon, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said: “Every family deserves the opportunity to spend quality time together and make happy memories.
“Through our partnership with The Getaway Foundation, families who might otherwise miss out can enjoy a well-earned break and some valuable time away from everyday pressures.”
The City Council works closely with local organisations to identify families who would benefit most from the support.
Peter Tebbutt, CEO of The Getaway Foundation said: “Over the past six years, working together, we've seen first-hand the impact of the memories the TGAF respite breaks create for families. For many, it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity - and the benefits last a lifetime."
The Getaway Foundation was founded in January 2020 to offer families in poverty the chance to build happy memories through holidays. According to the charity, poverty is one of the biggest issues impacting families in the UK, with 2.1 million children currently living in it.
