Brown more than happy with a scrappy goal

"It's not pretty on the eye but it's that kind of goal I love scoring," said Charlie Brown after netting the equaliser for MK Dons in the 1-1 draw with Fleetwood on Saturday.

Brown scored his third goal of the season with seven minutes to go, prodding home after keeper Alex Cairns spilled Matthew Sorinola's shot. It cancelled out Gerard Garner's strike on the hour mark for the home side, but a draw wasn't enough to keep alive Dons' hopes of a top-six finish as they dropped to 10th in League One with one game remaining.

Though it wasn't as pretty on the eye as some goals Dons have scored of late, Brown was not bothered in the least by the scrappy nature of his finish, which just about had enough to trickle over the line.

He said: "When the ball comes across, Matty has the shot, I've made my first movement but had to get back onside. Thankfully the keeper has spilt it and it's gone in in slow motion!

"It was good to get a goal. I want to make an impact when I come on. In the last 10, 15 minutes we were the team on top and we were the one who were going on to win it. I'm happy I could get a goal but it's a shame it couldn't lead to more and the win.

"(Russell Martin) told me to go on and show my energy, try and get a goal which is my job, and I'm happy to have done that.

"This is it now, and it will be even better when the fans are in next season, and hopefully I can score a load in front of them. It would have been unreal to have scored in front of them today."

While the draw ends Dons' three-game winning streak, a top-10 finish is still very much on the cards for Dons as they take on now relegated Rochdale at Stadium MK next Sunday in their final game of the season.

After losing to Lincoln last month, the squad set themselves a series of targets in the final five games, and Brown said those targets are still very much within reach.

He added: "The targets were massive. We want to win every game, we're a close group. The targets gave us something to aim for and we're well on the way to that. It has been great for us. We're going into the last game looking to win and get a few goals."
