Ethan Laird said he quickly started to love his time at MK Dons

The 19-year-old signed on loan from Manchester United in January and became a firm fixture in the Dons side as he racked up 26 appearances.

Although he did not get the chance to play in front of them, he became a favourite amongst the supporters too, many wishing he could remain at Stadium MK for another campaign.

He unfortunately limped out of the final game of the season in the first half after taking a heavy challenge from Rochdale's Gabriel Osho.

In a message sent to the players and staff at the club, Laird said he thought he was just coming to play games for experience, but learned so much more from being in the first team environment and loved his time in Milton Keynes.

He wrote: "It took me a while to say this because I genuinely feel a bit emotional! I just want to let you guys know that I love you. I've enjoyed being here so much. This team, I'm not sure I'll ever play for a team like it, the way we all gel and the way you guys took me in and looked after me from day one from the staff to the players.

"For a first loan, my initial thought was to get out there and just play games. But as the games went on I started to actually love playing with you guys and looked forward to fighting with you every week.

"I want to say thank you for making me really enjoy my football. I've learned a lot and you guys have helped me develop on and off the pitch. I will miss you a lot. All the best for next season, and don't be a stranger!"
