After Regan Poole lamented the timing of his Wales U21 call-up, his manager has echoed his frustration as MK Dons lose two players for their trip to Sunderland on Saturday.

With Russell Martin likely to name a young team against Southampton U21s in the Papa John's Trophy on Wednesday night, the loss of Regan Poole and Daniel Harvie will be greater felt at the Stadium of Light at the weekend with the duo playing for Wales and Scotland respectively.

Poole said the timing of the call-up was frustrating as he was beginning to hit a vein of form for Dons, and it was a similar feeling for manager Martin too.

"It’s really frustrating," he said. "Most international players come from the leagues above so it doesn’t affect them. When you’ve got two players that work hard to get called up it’s fantastic for them but not good for us. We’re going away from home without two key players.

"Matty Sorinola has been fantastic and the other place is up for grabs for someone. It’s frustrating for both because their routine is so different, Regan plays a different position. It takes a bit of time when they come back to readapt also. It’s not a normal routine and it has effects on the players, we want good players here though and those getting international recognition is fantastic for them."
