A look ahead to MK Dons' return to Bucks rivals Wycombe Wanderers

Previewing Wycombe Wanderers vs MK Dons at Adam’s Park, kicking off at 3pm

The Buckinghamshire rivalry between MK Dons and Wycombe Wanderers is set to be rekindled when the pair meet again this Saturday.

The pair are certainly no stranger to one another down the years. From fiery clashes to play-off battles, Dons and Wycombe have taken chunks out of each other in the last 20 years, but it has been three years since they last crossed paths.

Dons’ relegation to League Two ended a run of 11 games in four years between the sides, with regular EFL Trophy and EFL Cup games between them.

During Dons’ absence from the third tier, Wycombe have held station in League One, finishing 11th last time out, but neither side head into Saturday’s game having made a good fist of the opening to this season. While Dons have three draws and a defeat to their name, Wycombe have two draws and two defeats, leaving the Buckinghamshire sides to occupy the bottom two positions in the division.

It will be the 20th time the sides have met, with Dons having claimed victory in nine to Wycombe’s six, with four draws. Dons’ record at Adam’s Park has seen them win three of the eight meetings there, drawing three times and losing just twice, though the last defeat there was the 2-0 loss in the play-off semi-final, which ultimately saw them miss out on the final in 2022.

Referee Stephen Martin will take charge of the game. In his two games this season, he has shown 10 yellows and a red card. Wycombe have a 50 per cent win-record when Martin is in charge (P10, W5 D4 L1) while Dons have won just twice (P8, W2, D1 L5).

Assistants Matthew Gumm-Smith and Jack Clench will run the lines with fourth official Dan Blades.
