Deal for Rotherham's Nombe 'ongoing' but Dons must meet asking price

A deal for the striker could still be worked if the money is right

MK Dons target Sam Nombe is ‘for sale at the right price’ according to Rotherham United boss Alex Bruce.

The 27-year-old came through the academy system at Stadium MK before leaving in 2021. After spells at Luton and Exeter City, Rotherham shelled out £1 million for the striker’s services in 2023.

Making 90 appearances for the Millers, netting 18 goals, Nombe was a part of the side which was relegated from League One last season, and it would seem they willing to cash in on Nombe but only if the price is right.

Dons have been linked with a move to bring Nombe back to Milton Keynes, where first made his name, but are understood to have been told their bids are not up to Rotherham’s liking.

Bruce, who took over at the AESSEAL New York Stadium at the start of the summer after leaving Salford where he was assistant to Karl Robinson, confirmed talks about Nombe’s future were still up in the air but reiterated that he would only be leaving Yorkshire if the price is right for the Millers.

Speaking to sister title the Rotherham Advertiser following Rotherham’s 1-1 draw with Matlock Town, Bruce said: “The situation is still ongoing. “Any sale has to be the right price. It's as simple as that.

“He's our main centre-forward and he has been for the last couple of years. If somebody else wants him, it's going to have to be for the right money.”

Speaking to the Citizen a couple of weeks ago, Dons boss Paul Warne, who won three promotions while in charge of Rotherham, said he was eager to sign a new centre-forward, an out-and-out number nine.
