Dons do Dennis deal to fight for number one jersey
The Bournemouth keeper has agreed to make the move to Milton Keynes
Competition for the number one shirt at MK Dons is set to spark into life with the signing of Will Dennis.
The 26-year-old arrives on a permanent deal from Premier League Bournemouth, having spent the second-half of last season on loan at Leyton Orient.
While at Brisbane Road, he conceded just 17 goals in 15 appearances, with four clean sheets to help ensure Richie Wellens’ side kept their heads afloat, avoiding relegation by three points.
Highly thought of by O’s supporters, and Kilmarnock fans for a stellar loan season at Rugby Park in 23/24, Dennis arrives at MK1 set to challenge Craig MacGillivray for the number one spot in Paul Warne’s side.
“Will is someone who we have been tracking all summer,” Warne said. “We had to be patient to get our man, however, to improve on our goalkeeping department we had to make sure we got the acquisition right.
“I really like the way he plays, he’s athletic, aggressive and front-footed.
“We welcome him to the football club as the latest addition to the squad.”
Sporting director Liam Sweeting added: “Will was a player we identified as a key target for us, so we had to be patient and work closely with Bournemouth while they assessed their own goalkeeping options and whether Will would become available.
“There was a lot of movement in the goalkeeping market early in the window, but we were clear on the profile we wanted and continued to work towards bringing Will to the club.
“Will joins at a time when Craig is playing very well, so there will be genuine competition for the position. That is exactly what we want within the squad – competition for places that drives standards every day and ultimately makes the group stronger.”
