Dons land Cardiff City's Player of the Year Wintle

MK Dons have completed their fourth signing of the summer

MK Dons have bolstered their midfield ranks with the signature of former Cardiff City skipper Ryan Wintle.

The 29-year-old captained the Bluebirds to promotion from League One last season, winning both the Player and Players’ Player of the Year awards for the club.

However, despite his status at the Welsh side, he was allowed to leave at the end of his contract after five-and-a-half years, with several clubs vying for his services for the campaign.

A defensive-minded midfielder by trade, Wintle can also play wide, something which Dons boss Paul Warne has been eager to add to his squad this summer.

“Ryan’s a great player,” said Warne. “He captained Cardiff to a promotion last year and also achieved their Player of the Year award.

“He has a real intent to his play and his athleticism allows him to cover the pitch really well.

“Although he’s a centre-mid, he has a lot of experience being a winger too back from when he was younger. He has the ability to put crosses into the box, adding attacking threat to his game with a great long-range threat as well.

“He’s a great character, and after speaking to two of his previous managers and a few of his former teammates, you could see his reputation was faultless.

“When I met him, I was impressed by his honesty and desire to play the game and win.

“Our midfield is currently a strong department, but we must keep improving the team and squad wherever possible.”

Wintle has joined up with his new team-mates at Dons’ pre-season training camp in Croatia.
