Wiles wants to wade in with more goals before the season is over

Ben Wiles spoke ahead of this evening’s clash against Gillingham

Midfielder Ben Wiles wants to chip in with a few more goals before the end of the season after he got his second for MK Dons on Saturday.

The former Huddersfield Town man headed home Liam Kelly’s cross against Harrogate to make it 4-1 at Stadium MK, doubling his tally after netting in his first league game for the club back in January, scoring the opener against Accrington.

With 11 games to go, Wiles was glad to get his first goal at Stadium MK, but admitted he is yet to show the fans what he is really capable of, despite not tasting defeat in anything other than the FA Cup penalty shoot-out defeat since his move.

He said: “I’m really happy to get a goal at home, my first one here and hopefully I can kick on and get as many as I can before the end of the season.

“I’ve not lost yet, I don’t want that responsibility! It’s true (having not lost yet) but I just want to help out as much as I can. I try to bring energy and run around.

“Some weeks are tougher than others, especially away from home, I can’t show my strengths as much, you have to play the game and sometimes that’s not what you want it to be. But that’s tough luck, we’re professionals and we have to adapt.

“We’ve come away from games where we’ve not been at our best, both individually and as a team but we’ve got the results. That’s the secret ingredient.”

Dons head to Kent this evening (Tuesday) to face a Gillingham side in 16th in League Two, a long way adrift of the play-off spots and well outside the relegation scrap.

With little pressure on Gareth Ainsworth’s side other than upsetting the apple cart, Wiles said Dons have to be wary of their threats at Priestfield.

He said: “Sometimes they’re the most difficult games, they have zero pressure, just playing care-free football. I’ve played against Gareth Ainsworth teams a lot, and we know they’re hardworking, tough, direct and physical. We’ve had some good games in the past, and I’m expecting this to be another one.”
