Jack smashes record while racing in America

Meijer takes over a minute off his 5,000m PB

Jack Meijer, representing the University of Wisconsin, where he is in the second year of his studies, smashed his personal best for 5,000m by 70 seconds in a race in San Juan Capistrano, California.

Competing against USA star Matt Centrowitz, the 1500m Olympic Gold Medallist from Rio, Jack finished in 12th place, just 12 seconds behind him in 13:44.17. This knocks almost half a minute off the club record set by Marcin Fudalej in 2010.

This result puts Jack in seventh place on the UK 5000m rankings for 2020 and second in the M23 rankings.

Six MMK runners toed the line for the Remembrance 10km Road Race at Bovingdon airfield, near Hemel Hempstead. Ryan Burling after a three man tussle at the front of the field moved ahead to win in 29:49 to become only the second MMK man to duck under 30 minutes, missing Kerry Hayes’ 31-year-old Club Record by just four seconds.

Jamie Seddon just missed out on a place in the MMK all-time top 10 in this event finishing tenth in 31:39, just ahead of Elliot Hind, 13th in 32:00.

In the women’s race, Ellie Roche, very keen to break 36minutes knocked two minutes off her personal best to win the women’s race in 35:36 and move to sixth in the Women’s Club all-time rankings.

Alice Ritchie was not far behind, placing second in the women’s race in 36:09, improving her best by 47 seconds, and moving to ninth in the MMK all-time rankings.
