Red Bull Racing will not rush Hadjar's recovery after missed races

The Frenchman has missed the last three race through injury

Injured Isack Hadjar will not be rushed back by Red Bull Racing boss Laurent Mekies despite missing the last three races.

The Frenchman has been on the sidelines for the Milton Keynes team after suffering a wrist injury during the summer break. It has left Liam Lawson to substitute for races in the Netherlands, Italy and Spain, with his role for next Saturday’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix yet to be decided.

Lawson is no stranger to subbing in for drivers with wrist injuries, having made his F1 debut in 2023 after replacing Daniel Ricciardo for five races.

Hadjar, 21, has made a strong start to his time with Red Bull, with eight top-10 finishes, including a podium in Monaco. He has also managed to out-qualify team-mate Max Verstappen three times.

His recovery and return to action for the Tilbrook team though will not be rushed, his team principal confirmed.

“Isack is good. There is nothing wrong with Isack's recovery. I think we have learned that it's fundamentally normal time for the sort of injuries he has,” Mekies said.

“We will continue with the same approach than what we had, we will evaluate the situations in a weeks’ time, we have a full week, with more than a full week to evaluate the situation to see how he feels. And then to put him on the simulator, to expose him to real-life constraints.

“If he feels close to 100 per cent, we go for it. If he feels the recovery is not completed, we will stick [with] our approach to put his recovery first.

“What we don't want to do is by having an early return, compromise his long-term capacity to come back to 100 per cent.”
