Free holidays for vulnerable families in Milton Keynes thanks to charity partnership

Vulnerable families in Milton Keynes are being given the opportunity to create happy memories on holiday, thanks to the City Council’s partnership with a Bucks charity.

The Getaway Foundation is working with the City Council, to give some of Milton Keynes’ most vulnerable families a much-needed break away. The charity has provided 86 free UK holidays to local families since 2021 - paid for by generous donations from its supporters.

The holidays give families who are struggling financially or facing challenging circumstances the opportunity to spend quality time together and create lasting memories. The City Council works closely with local organisations to identify families who would benefit most from the support.

Councillor Joe Hearnshaw, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said: “We’re incredibly grateful to The Getaway Foundation for their continued support. For families under pressure, a holiday can make a huge difference – giving them time to relax and bond.

"From speaking to these families, we know that the vast majority have seen a long-term positive impact on their wellbeing. This partnership is about more than just a trip away; it’s about giving families hope and helping them build resilience for the future.”

The Getaway Foundation was founded in January 2020 to offer families in poverty the chance to build happy memories through holidays. According to the charity, poverty is one of the biggest issues impacting families in the UK, with 2.1 million children currently living in it.

It works with families in Buckinghamshire, Luton , Milton Keynes and the Isle of Wight, and has set itself a goal of providing 76+ holidays to families in 2025. For more information about the charity and its work with Milton Keynes City Council, visit The Getaway Foundation website.

Peter Tebbutt, CEO of The Getaway Foundation said: “Poverty should never be a barrier to families enjoying time together. Our mission is to help create happy memories for those who need them most, and working with Milton Keynes City Council means we can reach families who are really struggling. These breaks give parents and children a chance to reconnect and experience something positive, which can have a lasting impact on family life.”
