Milton Keynes named UK’s second kindest city

Milton Keynes has been named the UK’s second kindest city, following research by financial services organisation the Benefact Group.

The results are based on analysis of locations where residents submitted the most charity nominations per head through the Benefact Group’s Movement for Good awards.

The awards, now in their eighth year, invite members of the public to nominate charities, which work to improve lives and strengthen communities across the UK and Ireland, for funding.

The number of charity nominations are then measured against the latest city population data from the Office for National Statistics to give the final table.

According to the Benefact Group’s research, Milton Keynes residents submitted 10,021 nominations for charities and good causes between January and September this year.

This put Milton Keynes in second place in the rankings behind Norwich which is top, and in front of Wolverhampton in third.

The top five is completed by Plymouth in fourth and Swindon in fifth, while Luton in neighbouring Bedfordshire comes in seventh place.

Group impact director of Benefact Group Chris Pitt said: “It’s always inspiring to see people champion the charities and causes that mean the most to them.

“We’re especially grateful to the people of Milton Keynes for taking the time to submit their nominations throughout the year.

“Every nomination represents a vote of confidence in the role of charities, allowing them to provide vital support in order to make a difference in their communities.”

The Benefact Group is a financial organisation owned by a charity which gives all available profits to good causes.
