Operation Detect visits school in Milton Keynes as part of work to tackle knife crime

Around 1,000 students passed through a screening arch at Shenley Brook End School this morning (Friday) as a condition of entry.

Officers from the Milton Keynes Harm Reduction Unit and the local neighbourhood policing team reported that no illegal items were found, and that they had positive conversations about knife crime and staying safe.

Police said they were hoping that through the engagement they would help young people “understand the risks and make safer choices.”

Operation Detect was launched by the city’s Safer Schools Officer PC Kevin Simmons in 2024 and has visited schools across Milton Keynes to educate pupils about knife crime.

Following the visit Shenley Brook End School said: “This visit was part of our ongoing commitment to safeguarding and student safety.

“The operation was carried out smoothly, and our students conducted themselves in a calm, respectful and cooperative manner throughout.

“We would like to thank our students for their maturity and Thames Valley Police for their support in helping us maintain a safe and secure environment for our school community.”
