Football needs cleaning up says Robbo after Sam Allardyce sacking

The MK Dons boss worked under Allardyce at Blackburn Rovers and spoke to him as recently as last Friday, before news of his misdemeanours came to light earlier this week.

With more managers expected to be embroiled in the scandal, Robinson believes football will have to be dragged through the mire to come out the other side in a better shape.

"There are an awful lot of things going on in this industry that will come to light in the next few weeks that aren't right," Robinson said. "Hopefully, the game will be a better place when this is all said and done. If we have to go through turmoil for a period to make sure it's a better place for us to work, with more honesty and clarity, it will be a good thing.

"We're still seen as a leading light as how the game should be. On the continent, it's rife. Football could be a better place in a month.

"I've not spoken to (Allardyce) about it since everything came out, but we have to respect the FA's decision. It's strange one - if I say I feel sorry for him, people would ask whether I believed in what he did.

"We don't know the full ins and outs yet, we'll leave that for the FA to investigate. He's already admitted it's a silly thing he's done."
