Late Posh equaliser resigns MK Dons to fifth draw in six games

League One: MK Dons 1-1 Peterborough United

A late Christopher Conn-Clarke goal for Peterborough United resigned MK Dons to a fifth draw in six games on Saturday.

Leading through Aaron Collins’ fifth goal of the season in the first-half, Dons withdrew in the second-half as the visitors pushed for an equaliser, with the substitute heading home with five minutes to go to share the spoils at Stadium MK.

Still seeking their first win of the season, Paul Warne made four changes to his side to face Peterborough. Goalkeeper Will Dennis was handed his first start since his move from Bournemouth, replacing Craig MacGillivray between the posts. Charlie Goode returned from injury, Callum Paterson returned to the starting line-up while Dan Crowley was handed his first start of the campaign too after impressing against Wycombe.

For Peterborough, Liam Kelly returned to his former club and for the opening 25 minutes, looked very much the player he was last season, orchestrating from just in front of the defence.

Peterborough looked eager to use the pace of ex-Colchester man Owura Edwards down their left-hand side, penning Gethin Jones in place as the visitors shaded the opening exchanges.

Keeper Dennis had his heart in his mouth when a mixup with Curtis Nelson almost let Edwards in behind, but he recovered to make an important save at his near-post.

Dons had a few half-sights of goal, and didn’t really look in the game until they took the lead on the half-hour mark. Paterson’s cross took a deflection onto the crossbar, and as it bounced down, it found hot-shot Aaron Collins who wrapped his right foot around it, cracking the left-hand post, then the right en route into the back of the net.

The goal kicked Dons into life, and they finished the half strongly, arguably should have been further ahead before the break. Collins flicked a header wide, Sam Nombe and Dan Crowley both forced good saves from keeper Alex Bass as the visitors were booed in at the break.

But the visitors would look a different proposition in the second-half, with boss Luke Williams making several early changes which had the desired impact.

While Dons threatened briefly in the early stages after the break, it was Peterborough who looked the more likely to draw level.

They came close when hitting the post from the edge of the box, while big blocks from Cohen Bramall and Charlie Goode were vital in keeping the lead.

Five minutes from time though their resolve broke when substitute Harley Mills clipped a deep ball to the far post for Christopher Conn-Clarke to bundle home the equaliser and resign Dons to their fifth draw in six games.
