Loanees will provide energy and youth to MK Dons' dressing room

MK Dons head coach Paul Warne spoke about the club’s performance in the transfer window on deadline day

The two transfer deadline day additions of Ibby Fullah and Eli Campbell did not exactly fit the mould of MK Dons signings this summer, but will bring something new to the dressing room, according to Paul Warne.

Fullah, 19, and Campbell, 22, are significantly younger than the majority of the first-team squad the head coach has put together since taking over 17 months ago. In fact, they are the youngest signings by some margin.

With the club focussed on ‘tried and tested’ rather than ‘up and coming’ in their bid to get out of League Two last season, and to an extent League One this, sporting director Liam Sweeting and the recruitment team have been tasked with bringing in experienced heads.

The signings therefore of Fullah and Campbell, on season-long loans from Charlton and Everton respectively, are more akin so Dons signings of old - young players who could make a big impression.

Not just bringing youthful exuberance on the field though, Warne wants to see both players bring something new to the dressing room too as they settle in their new surrounds at Stadium MK.

“I think they could both bring us something - some energy and youthfulness,” he said. “We’ve got quite a mature dressing room so I think their dynamic can help us as well as what they can do on the pitch. I look forward to watching them training later this week.”

The pair were the final two through the door on a relatively calm deadline day for Dons, so calm in fact that Warne and assistant Richie Barker left MK1 with more than five hours to go to watch Wycombe play Sheffield Wednesday at Adam’s Park, satisfied with the business they had done over the course of the last few months.

Warne said: “On the last day, if you’ve still got spaces to fill, it can be a bit crazy but we didn’t really so there was no reason for me to sit in the office eating pizza pretending we did.

“I left at about half 5 to get to Wycombe, and I was on the end of my phone but nothing happened of note.

“With 80 per cent of teams playing as well, it was lunacy. If I wanted to speak to Alex Revell at Stevenage for example, I wouldn’t be able to get ahold of him until after the deadline, then it’s too late.

“I think we’re got a well-balanced, decent squad. I’m pleased with it. We got a couple of younger players in at the end of the window, so we’ve got a full squad of players, apart from Kane Wilson.

“We did our business at the right time, we’ve got the right people in and hopefully it’s a good season from here now.”
