Rovers boss Wild claims referees wanted to see an MK Dons win
The Tranmere Rovers head coach took aim at the referees after his side’s 3-0 defeat to MK Dons
Tranmere Rovers boss Pete Wild launched an attack on the match officials after his side were beaten 3-0 by MK Dons on Saturday, claiming they ‘got the result they wanted’.
While goals from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Alex Gilbey and Callum Paterson sparked scenes of celebration inside Stadium MK as Paul Warne’s side secured automatic promotion and went top of the league with the win, Wild claimed referee Tom Reeves and his assistants had it in for his side.
The key moment appeared to be the decision to flag substitute Kristian Dennis offside when he fired past Craig MacGillivray early in the second-half with the game at 2-0, a decision Wild claims could have turned the game on it’s head.
“The officials knew the result they wanted today and they’ve got it, haven’t they. That’s frustrating,” he said afterwards. “We’ve had the best chance which we’ve put over the bar, we’ve had a goal disallowed which is clearly onside. It’s clearly onside, they’re the moments.
“Can’t see a corner that’s five yards away, can’t see a throw that’s ten yards away but he’s bang on with an offside which isn’t offside.”
Starting the day four points clear of the drop zone, results at the bottom of the division on Saturday now see Rovers just a point above trapdoor with a game to go.
Despite the comfortable nature at which Dons saw out the game, Wild went on to claim his side could have ‘easily’ got something out of the encounter.
He said: “All three are avoidable goals, they’re not great goals, not many in League Two are. We’re frustrated to concede them all.
“It’s a frustrating day because we could easily have got something out of this game.
“They have top players that shouldn’t be in this league anyway, but we’ve done really well in the game. We conceded off two second-phase set-pieces but in general not a lot happened. On a different day, it could have been a different story.”
