Tomlinson 'hoping and wishing' to stay at MK Dons next season

The wing-back’s contract is up at the end of the season after three years in Milton Keynes

Joe Tomlinson gave an honest response to questions regarding his future at MK Dons beyond Saturday, admitting he does not know where his future lies yet.

The 25-year-old has spent three years at Stadium MK after his move from Peterborough United in 2023, racking up 107 appearances and 13 goals.

While he has not played as much football as he would have liked this term under Paul Warne, through a combination of injuries and selection, he has found himself back in the side of late and in contention to get his hands on the League Two trophy on Saturday should the side win away at Fleetwood.

But with his contract up at the end of the season, Tomlinson could be seeking pastures new. For now though, he admitted he is not sure what will happen next.

“I don’t know, it’s as simple as that,” he said when asked about whether he will be staying at MK1. “All I can say is I love it here, my family love living here. I hope to stay and if that happens, then amazing. All I’m thinking about is Saturday and then seeing what happens. I’m in a good head space.

“My life here is amazing and I know we can go again next year. But as we all know in football, it’s out of my control.

“If this is the end, then this club will always hold a special place in my heart. If Saturday was the last home game I play here, what better way to go out. I’m hoping and wishing I’ll be here.”

A hugely popular player on the terraces, Tomlinson paid tribute to the supporters who sing his name at Stadium MK and indeed on the road, with more than 1,200 expected at the Highbury Stadium to potentially see the wing-back get his hands on the League Two trophy.

“What can I say about the fans, every single time they sing my name it makes me smile,” he said. “I just love it. I can only thank them all for the way they have treated me and my family, that’s why I love this club. So long as I’m an MK player, I’ll want to be here.

“The fans have been amazing for me during the tough times, and the good. Now we can celebrate the good ones.”
