Warne is not anticipating further exits at MK Dons ahead of transfer deadline
With the deadline looming on Tuesday, Paul Warne discussed the lay of the land at Stadium MK
No-one has asked Paul Warne to help them leave MK Dons with a little over 24 hours to go in the transfer window but has not entirely ruled out exits before tomorrow night’s deadline.
With a squad packed to the rafters, the head coach is still keen to get two more bodies through the door before Tuesday’s 11pm deadline. That may require room to be made in the dressing room, should Warne get his targets in ahead of time, but as yet, no-one has asked or told him they want out.
He said: “As we sit here now, I don’t think I’ll lose one or two however I’ve always said if a player doesn’t think he has a fair chance at getting into the team, it’s crazy to keep people in the building.
“If someone calls me at 7pm on deadline day, depending on whether I've got those two more in, I might be able to manage it but I’d do everything I can to help the player. You don’t want to see them all the way through to January that had an opportunity to play and I’ve stood in their way.
“I’d like to think we’d need two more faces in, but if we don’t, we don’t. That situation can always change though.”
He continued: “I'm really happy with my squad. On Saturday, we had Rush (Hepburn-Murphy) being a little away from full fitness, we had Jay (Matete) and Natty (Mendez-Laing) who didn’t make the bench through my selection - no massive conspiracies! No-one saw them at Gatwick flying to New York!
“The squad is in a good place, though if there is a chance to strengthen in a couple of positions I’d like to. However, if we didn’t, I’d back the squad wholeheartedly.
“We have an experienced squad, and no-one in there who is naturally the 19th man, so to speak. Everyone we have is a first-team player so to bring anyone new in would have to be worthy and compete with that.”
