Lawson replaces injured Hadjar at Red Bull Racing for Dutch Grand Prix

The New Zealander was barely given a chance in his short time at Red Bull Racing last year

Liam Lawson is to get a second-chance to prove himself at Red Bull Racing this weekend after injury ruled Isack Hadjar out of the Dutch Grand Prix.

Frenchman Hadjar, who is in his debut season at the Tilbrook team, suffered a wrist injury during the summer break and has not been able to recover in time for trip to Zandvoort - the scene of his only career podium last season.

New Zealander Lawson was signed to Red Bull Racing in 2025 having had two half-seasons at sister team Alpha Tauri/Racing Bulls. However, early struggles in the team saw Lawson ditched after just two races, replaced by Yuki Tsunoda and sent back to the junior squad.

Lawson has impressed this season, sitting ninth in the standings - the first driver outside of the ‘big four’ teams of Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull.

In a short statement, Red Bull said: “Oracle Red Bull Racing driver, Isack Hadjar, has sustained a wrist injury during summer shutdown that will prevent him from racing at the 2026 Dutch Grand Prix.

“We will be welcoming back Liam Lawson who will replace him in RB22 this weekend.

“The team wishes Isack a speedy recovery and thanks Liam for stepping in on short notice.”
