Brooklands Farm Primary School earns national recognition for preparing students with essential life and work skills
Brooklands Farm Primary School has been officially recognised for its commitment to preparing young people for the future after receiving a prestigious Gold Award from the Skills Builder Partnership.
The national award highlights the school’s leadership in embedding essential skills, such as Teamwork, Problem Solving and Speaking, directly into the daily curriculum. This award is one of just 16 gold awards this year for essential skills education.
Developing essential skills alongside traditional academic subjects is designed to support broader educational and career readiness. At Brooklands Farm Primary School, these core essential skills are taught explicitly within existing lessons, helping students connect classroom learning with real-world applications.
Earning the Gold Award reflects the school's outstanding commitment to embedding essential skills across all year groups from Nursery through Year 6. Essential skill language is integrated into daily school life, supported by weekly Key Stage assemblies, dedicated skill days, extended projects, and challenge days. Teachers use formative assessment and bespoke target cards to help learners track and celebrate their progress, while extensive links to real-world activities and workplace experiences enable students to apply their learning in meaningful practical contexts.
Dr Michael Englard, UK CEO at Skills Builder Partnership, said: "Congratulations to Brooklands Farm Primary School on their Skills Builder Gold Award. It’s been a privilege working with them as they build essential skills into the work of their school. We know that higher levels of essential skills translate into a greater chance of finding better work as adults, and that by explicitly developing those skills and giving young people the opportunity to practice, Brooklands Farm Primary School is helping to ensure that one day, everyone has the essential skills to succeed."
