The award recognises Makewell’s continued commitment to improving access to support, assessments, advocacy, and wellbeing services for neurodivergent children, young people, adults, and families across the region.

Over recent years, Makewell has become widely recognised for its innovative and compassionate approach to supporting the community through neuro-affirming healthcare, early intervention services, emotional wellbeing support, and inclusive community partnerships.

The award was presented by Nikki Ross, High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire, who praised the organisation’s dedication and innovation:

“It was a pleasure to award them a High Sheriff’s Award for their excellent work in the neurodiversity space. They are passionate about ensuring those that need assessments get them, they can prescribe where appropriate, they have the most gorgeous support ponies and a support dog for people, they work with the YMCA on an innovative Mental Wealth initiative to support residents and ensure screening and support is available to their residents.

Jane was the influence behind the Umbrella Project last year where businesses signed up to commit to work with, support and employ neurodivergent individuals because it is the right thing to do! And they do a whole lot more! Fantastic advocates!”

The award highlights the breadth of Makewell’s community work, including:
