Milton Keynes councillor takes the plunge for local bereavement charity

Milton Keynes City Councillor Wing Tsang has completed a 418ft abseil down the National Lift Tower (Northampton Lift Tower) to raise money for Harry's Rainbow - a local charity supporting children and young people following the death of a parent or sibling.

Cllr Tsang, who represents Broughton and Moulsoe, stepped over the edge of the world's tallest permanent abseil tower on Saturday 5 September.

Harry's Rainbow provides bereavement support to children and young people across Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas, helping families navigate life following the death of someone close to them.

Cllr Tsang was elected to the council in May 2026, her first time standing for elected office. She went on to take on the role of the council's Mental Health Champion this term, through which she has been meeting organisations and communities across the city to better understand local mental health provision and where further support may be needed.

Alongside this, she sits on several council committees and holds a number of trustee roles.

Born and raised in Milton Keynes, Cllr Tsang continues to live and work in the city and wanted the challenge to benefit a charity supporting families within the community she represents.

Speaking after completing the abseil, Cllr Wing Tsang said:

"Standing at the top of the tower and looking down was quite an experience, but I knew there was a much bigger reason for being there.

"Harry's Rainbow does incredibly important work here in Milton Keynes, particularly for children and young people whose lives have changed enormously through bereavement.

"As the council's Mental Health Champion, I am very conscious of the impact grief can have on someone's mental wellbeing and how important it is to have somewhere to turn when support is needed.

"Milton Keynes has always been home for me, so being able to take on a personal challenge while raising money for a charity helping people within my own community made it especially worthwhile."

Although the descent is now complete, Cllr Tsang's fundraising continues and she is encouraging people across Milton Keynes to get behind the appeal.

Every donation, whatever the amount, will help Harry's Rainbow continue its work with bereaved children and young people. Those who would like to recognise Cllr Tsang's challenge and support a local charity making a difference to families across the city are encouraged to donate through her JustGiving page:
