Milton Keynes Dawoodi Bohra community comes together to support local families

A bag full of groceries may seem like a humble contribution, but for someone facing a difficult week, it can mean one less thing to worry about.

That simple thought brought members of the Dawoodi Bohra community in Milton Keynes together through their ‘Project Rise initiative to support the Milton Keynes Foodbank. Families and volunteers of all ages came together to procure and pack essential food items for the less fortunate.   to shop for essential items, sort donations

For the younger volunteers, the day offered a simple lesson: that helping others does not always require a grand gesture.

Emily Darlington, MP for Milton Keynes Central, joined the volunteers and offered her encouragement for the effort.“If you are in need of support, please reach out to my office or the MK Foodbank. And if you are in a position to help, I encourage you to give what you can, as the Dawoodi Bohra community has. Their example shows that generosity is not about the size of the contribution, but about the difference we can make when we choose to help one another.”

The donations will support the food bank and provide essential supplies to vulnerable individuals and families.

For the Dawoodi Bohra community, the act was about more than collecting food. It was an opportunity to come together, contribute, and encourage the younger generation to see service as part of everyday life.

Murtaza Yusuf, a community organiser from Milton Keynes, said: “We may never know the person who receives what we have given, but we can still choose to make their day a little easier. Bringing our families and young people into initiatives like this helps us pass on the importance of looking beyond ourselves and caring for the community around us.”

The community expressed its appreciation to the Milton Keynes Foodbank team and its volunteers, whose work ensures that support reaches people when they need it most.

Through Project Rise, the Dawoodi Bohra community undertakes initiatives focused on food security, health, environmental protection, education, and women’s empowerment. It encourages individuals and families to contribute their time, resources, and skills in service of the wider community.
