Monteverdi Vespers - Sunday 11 October 2026 at Christ the Cornerstone

"Vespro della Beata Vergine" composed by Claudio Monteverdi in 1610, directed by Adrian Boynton.

Played with baroque and renaissance musical instruments in a complete performance of Monteverdi's monumental masterpiece.

This revolutionary work drew on a whole variety of new techniques to gain its effect - from a world of emotional and dramatic music rather than the accepted 'church' manner of its day.  Expressive solos, duets and trios alternate with resplendent choral movements exploiting different groups of voices.

Come and enjoy the sumptuous splendour of this magnificent work - enhanced by the intimate surroundings of the City Church, the beautiful acoustic, and the precision and blend of the Cornerstone Chamber Choir, Orchestra and Soloists
