SEND Scout Group looking to grow
Galaxy Scout Group currently provides opportunities for children and young people aged 14 to 25 with SEND. From September 2026, they are looking to expand the age category from 10 to 25. The Group have recently celebrated their first birthday where they had a birthday cake, and party games including pass the parcel. Other activities they were doing included soft archery, jenga, connect 4, swingball, bubble wands and blindfold football (with a bell in the ball).

Adult volunteer Michelle Robinson-Boyce, whose idea it was to start the Group said, “The young people can earn badges, can chill or be arty.” She added, “We still do some mainstream activities, for example cooking, hiking. kayaking and a scavenger hunt and we have plans for the future to have a sleepover and go camping.” Michelle added, “For many of the parents or carers it’s an opportunity to meet with other adults and talk about similar points.”
Michelle who won the Proud of Bucks Adult Volunteer of the Year award for setting up and establishing the Scout Group said, “Having an understanding that some youngsters cannot access mainstream Scouting, I took the initiative to build an inclusive and supportive environment where they have a sense of belonging. We’ve adapted activities for those attending and given young people opportunities to make friends, grow in confidence and develop new skills. We can give families access to opportunities that simply did not exist before and make the community more inclusive for all.”
Joshua, aged 13 said, “All of the activities are good. My favourite today is Jenga.” His mother Kate said, “It allows Josh to interact with others, meet other people and engage with his peers.” She added, "He’s excited when coming to Scouts and keeps reminding me when we are due to come.” When asked to describe Scouts in three words, Josh said, “Fun, laughter and enjoyment.”
Mums Michelle and Vicky said, “There is little provision for young adults and the Scout Group provides lots of things for them. It is very relaxed and allows Bella and Charlotte to make friends outside of school. They’ve done lots of activities that they could not do at school. All the young people can be themselves and be with their peers.”
The Group meet at the Scout HQ in Embleton Way, Buckingham MK18 1FH.
