Firefighters remain on scene looking for hot spots after major blaze ripped through Pink Punters nightclub in Milton Keynes

Bucks Fire and Rescue Service says its officers remain on the scene of a major blaze which ripped through Pink Punters nightclub overnight as they search for hot spots.

People have been asked to avoid the Watling Street area of Bletchley following the huge blaze which required 12 crews to tackle it in the early hours of Sunday morning (April 26).

At the height of the fire the crews, along with five officers, attended the popular Milton Keynes night spot from West Ashland, Broughton, Newport Pagnell, Woburn, Leighton Buzzard, Buckingham and Olney.

Police joined the fire crews at the scene as the building was evacuated while road closures and cordons were put in place. A spokesman for the Thames Valley Police force confirmed there had been no injuries.

Just before 10am on Sunday morning, the fire service issued an update saying they are now starting to scale back the amount of fire engines in attendance.

But firefighters will still remain on scene as they work hard to dampen down and check the building for hot spots, which may pose the risk of the blaze reigniting.

The road closure on Watling Street, Bletchley, is still in place, and Bucks Fire and Rescue Service is asking members of the public avoid the area.

"Thank you for your patience and understanding,” a BFRS spokesman said.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus, main jets and two turntable ladders to get the incident under control while cordons were put in place.

Crews are expected to remain at the scene for a ‘considerable amount of time’.

"We are working with Thames Valley Police, South Central Ambulance Service and onsite staff,” BFRS added.

“Our crews are working extremely hard, and we’ll provide further updates when we have more confirmed information.

“Our advice to the public is to still avoid the area and to local residents, please keep windows and doors closed to avoid breathing in smoke generated by the fire.”

Thames Valley Police reiterated that message in their own statement on the incident.

"Our officers are on scene in support of Bucks and MK Fire and Rescue at a fire at the Pink Punters night club.

“All people have been evacuated and no one has been injured.

“A road closure is in place on the V4 and members of the public are advised to avoid the area.

"We would ask residents in the area to close windows and doors due to smoke from the fire.

“It is likely that we will be on scene for a number of hours while the fire is dealt with, we thank everyone for their patience.”
