Over £1m funding helps Milton Keynes residents in financial crisis

More than £1 million was given to Milton Keynes residents in need of crisis support last year, helping thousands of people facing financial hardship access essentials, such as food, heating, energy and household goods.

At a time when the cost of living continues to put pressure on household budgets, Milton Keynes City Council is providing a vital safety net for residents who are at risk of reaching a financial crisis point.

The funding has helped local people cover essential costs such as utility payments, emergency food, replacing broken white goods and other household essentials, as well as emergency accommodation.

For many, a crisis can be triggered by an unexpected bill, a broken cooker or fridge, a family emergency or a sudden change in personal circumstances. In these cases, the city council provides practical support that helps people through challenging moments and prevents short-term problems from becoming longer-term hardships.

Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Communities, Cllr Donna Fuller said: "Behind every application for support is a person or family facing a difficult situation. Nobody should choose between heating their home and putting food on the table, or struggle without essential household items because they simply can't afford to replace them."

"We know that cost of living pressures haven't gone away. That's why we're continuing to stand alongside residents experiencing hardship and investing in services that make a real difference. This is about creating a city where everyone is valued, feels safe and has the opportunity to live a healthy and fulfilling life."
