The Applewood

Applewood opened its doors a year ago and is wowing judges, and its residents and families.

Offering residential care, memory care and respite stays, The Applewood, prides itself on being a home-from-home for the elderly in Milton Keynes.

Already the home’s communities are providing top-quality care for dozens of people, giving them and their families the peace of mind to know they are being looked after 24-7. Plans are already well underway to open up the penthouse community later this summer, due to the number of enquiries they are receiving.

Resident Liaison Manager Samantha Jones said: “We are extremely proud of the reputation we have built and have made strong connections within the local community.”

And with an emphasis on community and wellbeing, and with day trips and activities keeping everyone entertained, it is easy to see why word-of-mouth communication is making self-funded Applewood well known in the area.

What to expect

If it’s been a while since you visited a care home you will be very pleasantly surprised. Firstly, the location – yes, it is a purpose-built modern facility with everything you might expect, but they’ve kept it in harmony with nature. They retained an existing orchard in the grounds and that, and the gardens, offer beautiful views from many of the rooms and pleasant outdoor space.

Indoors, of course, there are private en suite rooms, free WiFI throughout, a cinema room, a hairdressing salon and various dining rooms, including a private dining space for you to host small family parties. There are lots of lovely touches throughout, from the stunning glass walled balconies on upper floors to the bathroom ceilings decorated with starlight, making it a relaxing zen space.

And in keeping with the home-from-home set-up, you can furnish your room with your own photos etc, and treat it just like your home. Fancy a glass of wine or beer with dinner? No problem! Want to invite friends over for lunch? No problem.

The team are all about inclusion and making you feel right at home. Accommodation can be set up to suit couples – including turning one room into a sleeping space for both, and next door to become their own private lounge. Couples get a 10 per cent discount for the entirety of their stay, too.

Respite care

If you fancy a ‘try-before-you-buy’ option, or want somewhere safe to stay while your family are off on holiday, The Applewood has a ‘four weeks for the price of three’ offer on all respite packages. Convert your respite care into long-term care, and you will 20 per cent off your first three months too.

Award-winning

Ms Jones says the team were “amazed and delighted” to win an award in their first year at the MK Inspiring Care of the Year awards for emergency health care. This comes on the back of amazing reviews from clients and their loved ones, including:

Applewood Care Home is a wonderfully equipped with such caring staff who work so hard to make residents and visitors truly cared for and welcome. Virtually impossible to find any negativity to this wonderful community facility. Big thank you!

Philip M

“The care and kindness shown to residence is brilliant. The food is excellent and the home is beautifully kept and the cleanliness is first class. The activities and entertainment are very varied and enjoyed by all. Trips to the home from local groups are very much appreciated and always coming up with new ideas. Any complaints or queries are dealt with immediately and relatives and residents are well informed with regular meetings.” Linda B.

Summer fete – all welcome

On Saturday, August 1, Applewood is hosting a summer fete for their residents, their families and the wider community. It’s on from 2-4pm and is free to enter. With lots of stalls and entertainment, many featuring the residents themselves, this will be a glorious, inclusive day.

“Last time we did this we had a human fruit machine stall which the residents ran and loved. We will definitely be doing that again.”

And for those who simply want to see The Applewood for themselves, tours can be arranged on the day of the fete, or at other times to suit.
