Dons looked 'imperious' as they smashed six past Doncaster

The MK Dons head coach spoke after his side’s 6-1 win over Doncaster Rovers

There were precious few complaints from head coach Paul Warne after his side’s dominant 6-1 win over Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.

Four goals from Aaron Collins saw the Welshman reach 16 in 15 games this season, with Callum Paterson and Marvin Ekpiteta putting a bow on the thumping at Stadium MK.

But for a 20 minute spell at the start of the second-half, which threatened to let Grant McCann’s side back into the fray when Jordan Thomas pulled one back for the visitors, Warne said his side looked on top as they won a third game in seven days, and a for a fourth time in five games to lift them to 11th in League One.

“I think we were pretty imperious in the first-half,” he said. “But we went away from that a bit, got a little bit soft.

“Collo got us a couple of goals and put us in good stead at half-time at 2-0. Doncaster made changes at the break, and we had to ride that storm for 20 minutes, they were right on top. I love Grant and how his team play, made it really awkward for us. We looked leggy, we couldn’t get up or out, but when they scored, the game flipped again.

“It was weird, you’d think it might go their way to go on and get a second, but we didn’t panic, went on and won really handsomely.”

He continued: “I’m really pleased with everyone. We put on a real show.

“We defended resolutely, it’s a shame we conceded the goal but overall, we’re confident and that’s a powerful force.

“This comes after a really good performance in the week too. For everyone to contribute to a 6-1 win is impressive. To create chances is one thing, to score them is another. We must’ve had about 20 attempts on goal today, so I’m really pleased for everyone.”
