Dons winger confirms he needs surgery after limping out against Cambridge

The winger will be out for the foreseeable future

Top-scorer Nathaniel Mendez-Laing will need surgery on his hamstring after suffering the injury against Cambridge United.

The 33-year-old confirmed on social media that he will need to go under the knife, having pulled up during the 1-1 draw at Stadium MK.

Mendez-Laing was enjoying a great time of it in the MK Dons side at the time too, having scored six goals in five games and had been named PFA League Two Player of the Month for November.

“Devastated with the news of needing to have surgery,” he wrote. “I’ll be working tirelessly to get back fit and helping my team. Thank you for all the messages of support. Let the journey begin.”

Speaking after the game on Saturday, head coach Paul Warne said he was having to manage Mendez-Laing’s fitness ahead of the busy Christmas period before the blow in the Cambridge game.

He said: “Nat felt his hamstring. We’ve been managing his minutes, I didn’t want to take him off on Tuesday (against Notts County) but I knew for him to go back-to-back like that we’d need to manage him. I didn’t think it would be a problem so early in the game. But he felt it go so that’s a concern.”

The Guatemalan is the latest to suffer a hamstring injury at Stadium MK, with Gethin Jones and Aaron Collins both having lengthy spells out of the side earlier this season.
