Goal-scoring MK Dons skipper nominated for League Two's Player of the Month
The winners will be revealed on Friday
Skipper Alex Gilbey has been nominated for League Two’s Player of the Month for October.
The 30-year-old had a brilliant month, helping Dons to important wins over Gillingham, Bristol Rovers and Crewe Alexandra, scoring three goals in the process as Paul Warne’s side cruised back into the promotion battle at the sharp end of League Two.
Gilbey is joined in the battle for the Player of the Month prize by Colchester winger Harry Anderson, Shrewsbury defender Will Boyle and Notts County striker Alassana Jatta.
Anderson’s work-rate and energy has long since brought the winger admirers. His desire to burst forward, as he did from his own area for his hat-trick goal against Harrogate, brought him the reward of five goals in four October games.
Having missed almost an entire season through injury, Boyle has also had to adjust to a new club. Fitness and form are now in sync for a defender whose prowess in the air was seen at both ends with three clean sheets and two goals in four games.
Suspension and injury delayed Jatta’s season, but he is now in his usual rampaging form with two key goal involvements at Oldham and four goals in as many games, including a powerful header and a finish on the run against Cambridge.
Dons boss Paul Warne was not included in the nominations for Manager of the Month, with Michael Appleton (Shrewsbury Town), Steve Cotterill (Cheltenham Town), Danny Cowley (Colchester United) and Martin Paterson (Notts County) in the running.
The winners will be revealed on Friday.
