Posh performances do not match points tally - Warne
The MK Dons head coach spoke ahead of Saturday’s game against Peterborough United
Peterborough’s performances this season are not being reflected in their results, according to MK Dons boss Paul Warne.
Luke Williams’ side have won one, drawn one and lost three this season, heading to Stadium MK for the first time in four years sat one place (20th) below their opposition on goal difference.
There have been some eye-catching results along the way for Posh too, beating Championship side Watford 5-1 in the Carabao Cup before a crushing 4-0 defeat at the hands of Blackpool just a few days later. Although they were beaten last time out too, it came at the hands of early pace-setters Sheffield Wednesday.
Much like Dons, who have drawn with Oxford United, Huddersfield Town, Leicester City and Wycombe Wanderers thus far, Warne believes Peterborough’s performances do not match up with their points tally at this stage and that Saturday’s game at MK1 will be highly competitive.
“From their games, they’ve looked good,” he said. “They’ve got (Harry) Leonard up top who I’ve tried to sign a few times, he’s a really mobile striker who had been given a chance since leaving Blackburn. They’ve got a figurehead at the top.
“They’ve got a young, energetic side who love to pass, they want to keep the ball and they can embarrass you. They’re young, so you get that joyful youth of risk-taking, you get that energy and drive. And they’ve been really unlucky in their games.
“They’re a good team. I love how they play, the risks they take, that they cross it early. There is no chance of us underestimating them. It should be a really good game.
“I like Luke, I’ve spoken to him a few times over the years, he’s one of the good guys.”
