Bletchley ease past All-Blacks to climb the league table
The home side looked in control from the off at Manor Fields
Bletchley recorded a strong bonus-point victory at home on Saturday, producing a controlled and clinical display to beat Gosford All Blacks 33–14.
With momentum building after last week’s win away at Oxford, the Maroon and White delivered another composed performance built on sharp execution, physicality in contact, and an almost unstoppable driving maul.
The hosts took the lead after just three minutes when Ollie Comery got on the end of Cam Watkins’ cross-field kick to cross the line, with Watkins doing the kicking duties.
Bletchley then doubled their advantage on 15 minutes when Tom Perkins benefited from the driving maul to cross over to make it 12-0.
Ten minutes later, another driving maul saw Aaron Fitzgerald score, with Watkins at it again to extend the lead to 19-points.
Seven minutes before the break, Bletchley went down to 14 men when scrum half Jack Sharp received a yellow card for a high tackle. Gosford capitalised immediately, exploiting an overlap to score a converted try for 17–7.
Bletchley responded in style though three minutes before half-time when skipper Hugo Govett blasted through two defenders to cross the whitewash, Watkins kicking the extras to make it 26-7 at half-time.
After making big changes to the side at the interval, the pace of the game slowed by Bletchley remained resolute, though they saw their lead reduced on the hour-mark when Gosford capitalised on a lapse scrum to break 60 metres to score between the posts, making it 26-14.
Just two minutes later though, Bletchley restored their advantage as Josh Kerr scored his first try for the club, beating three tacklers to score between the sticks, with Watkins kicking them to 33-14.
Elliott Hales, meanwhile, delivered a Player-of-the-Match performance with line-breaking runs, heavy tackles, and relentless defensive pressure.
In the end, Bletchley’s pressure, structure and execution proved too much for Gosford, and the final whistle confirmed a 33–14 win with a deserved bonus-point win that lifts the side three places in the Counties 1 table.
This Saturday (December 6) travel to take on Bracknell in another important Counties 1 league clash.
