The UK Minister for Sport has welcomed plans for a £3 million refurbishment of three Milton Keynes leisure centres while visiting the city.

The Minister was given the grand tour of Bletchley Leisure Centre yesterday, ahead of its makeover.

The facility will gain a fun new outdoor Splash Pad for children and families to enjoy during the warmer months, as well as a new car park lift - after months and months of the current lift being broken. This work is due to begin soon.

Woughton Leisure Centre and Windmill Hill Golf Centre will also be upgraded as part of a new long-term contract with Serco Leisure and More Leisure Community Trust. Around 600,000 visits were made to the three centres in the last year alone.

After visiting the centre, the Minister for Sport viewed plans for the £3 million transformations across the three local facilities with Milton Keynes councillors and candidates.

Stephanie Peacock MP, Minister for Sport, said: “It’s great to hear about the investment going in thanks to our brilliant Labour council, not just at Bletchley Leisure Centre but at three sites across Milton Keynes.

“We know that leisure centres play an integral part in getting people active. We’re committed to supporting the vital role these and other grassroots facilities hold in bringing communities together across the country.”

Deputy MK City Council Leader Cllr Lauren Townsend said: “Nationally, lots of councils are having to make cuts but here in Milton Keynes, we are really pleased that we haven’t shut a single library, family centre or leisure centre. We will continue to invest and improve these facilities for everyone in our communities.”
