No grudges against Bromley after pipping Dons to League Two title
MK Dons boss Paul Warne spoke ahead of tonight’s game with Bromley at Stadium MK
MK Dons are not seeking revenge when they take on Bromley this evening at Stadium MK.
The Ravens pipped Dons to the post last season, claiming the League Two title on the final day of the season after a nail-biting finale to the campaign.
The sides meet again on Tuesday night, but for the first time it is in League One after both sides secured automatic promotion.
But while Dons were denied on the final day of the season, boss Paul Warne insists they missed out on winning the title due to their own shortcomings against Fleetwood on the final day of the season, handing Bromley the chance to claim the crown.
“Last season isn’t on my mind, I don’t hold grudges, and I can’t hold any against Bromley because it’s not their fault we didn’t win the title,” he said. “We didn’t win the last game when it was in our hands, so my grudge is more with Fleetwood for denying us!
“We just know each other a bit more, and we want to win it just like any other.”
Both sides have struggled to find their footing in the new division. While Dons had to wait nine games for their first win of the season and sit 18th, Bromley too have found life difficult in League One. They head to Stadium MK in 22nd, having parted company with manager Andy Woodman last week after five-and-a-half years in charge.
A tough side to come up against last season, Warne said the Ravens have had to adapt and change things heading into League One compared to how they played in League Two, and Dons are no different.
Speaking ahead of the game, he said: “I think they’ll say the same about us - there are still some of the same players there from last season. Obviously they’ve had a change of manager too, and some of their starlets are still there.
“They’ll play fairly similar but with the change of manager, it might be a version of what they were.
“It won’t just be a ‘turn up and win’ game, both of the games against Bromley last season were really tough and I expect the same on Tuesday.”
