Two wins in a week is a step in the right direction for MK Dons
Picking up six points out of nine has put a smile back on Paul Warne’s face
Two wins in a week might not have dramatically altered MK Dons’ position in League One but Paul Warne feels it has been a big step in the right direction.
Prior to the game against Luton, Dons were still seeking their first win of the season but emerged a week later from Stevenage with two in their pocket, either side of a disappointing 2-0 defeat away at Blackpool.
Picking up six points from nine has lifted Dons from 23rd to 18th in League One, still a far cry from their top six aspirations but after going the first eight games of the season without a win, head coach Warne is pleased to see his side start to build up some momentum.
“I definitely would have (taken six points from nine), having not won a game prior,” he said. “It looked like we’d have only got three from those games!
“It was nice to get that first win, it gave the lads some more confidence but I’m still heartbroken we didn’t get all three at Blackpool. I still think we should’ve, and it would have been a great start. That would have put us three behind Sheffield Wednesday, and in a really good spot.
“However, I’m aware that the wins we did get were narrow. It sums up the league. In every game we’ve played, we could have won, lost or drawn.
“Six points is a good return, and with two home games we want to be positive and if we are able to win back-to-back, we’re going in the right direction.”
Dons take on 22nd place Bromley on Tuesday night looking to win back-to-back for the first time, before hosting 17th place Doncaster on Saturday.
