Wales call-up would be a dream come true for hitman Collins
The Welshman has only one U15s appearance for his country
A potential call-up to the Welsh national squad would be a dream for MK Dons striker Aaron Collins.
The 29-year-old is bang in form at Stadium MK, with 16 goals in 15 appearances, making him the leading goal-scorer in all of the top four divisions.
With only one Wales U15s appearance to his name during a career which has seen him net 122 goals in 436 appearances, Collins’ start to this season has been eye-catching, with Dons boss Paul Warne sounding out Wales boss Craig Bellamy after the 6-1 win over Doncaster on Saturday.
After scoring his second hat-trick of the month for Dons, having also done so against Brentford U21s in the Jersey Mike’s Subs Trophy, Collins has certainly put himself in good stead for a call-up, but the striker insists he is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.
“It would be an honour and a dream to play for Wales but it’s not something I’d think about,” he said. “If the time was right, and I get the chance, that would be great.
“All I can do is keep doing what I’m doing, putting my name out there. If I get the chance, it would be amazing.
“It’s all about confidence as a striker. When you’re scoring, you feel good and whenever you get a chance, you’re going to take it.”
Unofficially his third hat-trick for Dons, with one coming in his very first pre-season outing against Hitchin Town not long after his move from Bolton Wanderers in the summer of 2025, Collins’ four-goal tally against Doncaster is a first for the Welshman.
And he admitted he was not sure how to celebrate it.
“It’s the first time I’ve got four, I’ve had a few hat-tricks, so four is a strange one!” he said. “When you get three, it’s happy days, match ball, it’s what you want. With four, it’s the same!
“Unless I got six, I’d question whether I’d get another ball! As soon as you get three, that’s the great feeling, another ball for the mantle piece.”
Being the leading scorer in the country was something which came as a surprise to him, adding: “It didn’t really cross my mind, but that’s a great feeling. As a striker, you just want to keep scoring and be up there. At the moment, I’m up there, I’m in a good flow, full of confidence so long may it continue.”
