Collins or Kane are the only two Warne wants a chance to fall to

Welsh striker Collins banged home his tenth goal of the season in the win over Luton

Aaron Collins is in esteemed company when it comes to penalty takers, with Paul Warne admitting only England’s highest ever goal-scorer is a match for the MK Dons hitman.

The Welshman netted his tenth goal in 11 appearances during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Luton Town, coolly converting from the penalty spot after being fouled with 13 minutes to go, winning Dons’ first League One game of the season in the process.

Collins has been in red hot form this season, already surpassing last season’s goal tally of eight and miles ahead of everyone else in the MK1 dressing room chasing down his total.

Such has been his eye for goal so far this season, Dons’ head coach said Collins is one of two strikers he wants a chance to drop to at the moment, and one of them is vying for the Ballon d’Or.

“If a chance is going to fall to anyone, I want it to fall to either Harry Kane or Aaron Collins. They’re often compared for the Ballon d’Or!” he said.

“Collo’s been fricking amazing. On my goal-scoring wall, he’s already down to the physio’s room from my office!

“He worked really hard from when he picked the ball up to where he won the penalty. To get up and take it, it was befitting of his performance.”

Skipper Alex Gilbey said he never had any doubts that the ex-Bolton man would convert from 12-yards to seal the victory for Dons, cancelling out Jack Clark’s equaliser seven minutes earlier which threatened to share the spoils.

Gilbey said: “When they scored, I still felt we had killers on the pitch. Aaron Collins will always get himself a chance. I told everyone to stay calm, and then Collo did what Collo does.

“The biggest thing for him is rhythm, last year he just couldn’t get going. For him to find it this season just shows how capable he is.

“He works so hard every day, constantly doing finishing after training so he is getting what he deserves.”
