Up-turn in form has helped Dennis find his way in goal at MK Dons
The goalkeeper has found his feet quickly in his new, but familiar, surrounds
Settling into life at MK Dons was pretty easy for goalkeeper Will Dennis, but winning games of late has helped even more.
The 26-year-old has been a mainstay between the sticks since the middle of September, coming into the side from the Peterborough game and playing every game since.
Replacing keeper Craig MacGillivray, who had been the club’s first choice last season, Dennis had big shoes to fill after arriving from Premier League side Bournemouth. After some confident displays as Dons’ last line of defence, Dennis says he feels at home in the side, with recent wins making everyone a little bit more settled.
“Coming in after a win, the dressing room feels so much better anyway, irrespective of the previous results,” he said. “The more wins you get, the better the training ground feels.
“Playing regular games is something I’ve wanted to do since I was a kid, and it has been easier than I thought coming into the team. The lads have helped me settle really well, guiding me through games and training sessions.
“To come in and gel straight away is always hard, because people come in at different stages of the window, so it’s hard to get that atmosphere straight away. The lads were great with me, made me feel at home right away but to gel on the pitch it’s something.
“We’ve got to keep building. It’s a long season, we’ve got to pick up points to get to where we want to be. I’m sure we’ll keep on adding.”
No stranger to Stadium MK, Dennis, from Bedford, first played at the ground as a youngster in 2012. Making his debut for the club at the same ground he watched his first professional game, he admitted was an exciting time.
He said: “My signing day was pretty weird because I first came here in 2012 for a cup final, so to come out as a first team player, playing for the team I watched a few times, it was really special.
“I’ve always got a few of my family coming to watch, so it was a really special time.”
